More than 100 years since its foundation

Japanese and gold leaf signs

Applications

Hand-made production of one piece at a time following traditional techniques of more than 100 years

At Kurita Kanbanho, we have been making various kinds of signs, in particular Japanese-style signs and hand-carved signs, for many years. We produce mainly gold leaf signs, wooden carved signs, copper sheet signs and verdigris signs, but we also handle various other types to satisfy the needs of our time. We provide our customers with unique “emblems” with a long and rich history for their shops.

Opening hours: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on weekdays

At Kurita Kanbanho, we pay particular attention when creating signs for Japanese sweets shops. We aim at conveying the feeling of quality and good taste to their potential customers, as well at reproducing the atmosphere of traditional shops, the nobility and elegance of fresh seasonal sweets, the ambiance of the seasons, or the emotion experienced when eating mochi sweets.

Signs raised up for everyone to see them are tokens of the confidence and pride of the makers for their products.

Signs are generally made of wood with a small copper roof and gold leaf or verdigris finishing or made of copper. The characters are designed following the requirements of the shop regarding the font and logo to increase the value and standing of the shop.

A wide range of sizes is available, from small signs to be installed in the restaurant entrance, to large signs placed on the roof to attract customers and medium-sized signs for indoor displays.

We also provide the proper finishing that will perfectly suit the atmosphere of the restaurant, such as wood finishing for friendly and relaxing atmosphere in traditional izakaya bars, or small and attractive signs for Kaiseki restaurants and stately embossed characters and gold leaf finishing for dried food/seafood wholesalers.

Some customers even ask us to repair old signs to display them inside their restaurant as a way to increase the feeling of security and satisfaction of their clients.

Breweries and sake shops

In the 50s and 60s, we made numbers of signs for bars representing golden sake barrels or with the name of a famous sake written on it. These days, we are receiving many orders from well-established breweries and shops selling local and famous sakes.

Signs that represent lucky charms with a strong and luxurious impact are very popular.

Besides signs with golden leaf finishing for new shops, we are receiving many inquiries to repair worn wooden signs.

Shrines and temples

In case of temples and shrines, orders differ from regular commercial signs. We receive many inquiries from such religious institutions to make panels with the name of a building written on them, such as hengaku and sangogaku.

We provide finishing processes, such as wood carving and gold leafing, suited to shrines or temples.
