Japanese and gold leaf signs
製品案内
At Kurita Kanbanho, we have been making various kinds of signs, in particular Japanese-style signs and hand-carved signs, for many years. We produce mainly gold leaf signs, wooden carved signs, copper sheet signs and verdigris signs, but we also handle various other types to satisfy the needs of our time. We provide our customers with unique “emblems” with a long and rich history for their shops.
From the highest percentage of gold to five coat colors → No. 1 color → No. 2 color → No. 3 color → No. 4 color, but the Kurita signboard uses No. 1 color Kinkakuji in Kyoto also uses the same color I hear that you are. It is because it oxidizes and discolors when there are many silver and copper for outdoor use. I am allowed to purchase directly from the manufacturer of Kanazawa. The gold leaf is thinly stretched by pounding an alloy with pure gold plus a small amount of silver and copper. In our company we use 3 times thicker "Thicker Three-piece Thicket" which is three times as thick as ordinary things for outdoor use.
In carving wood carving signs, when expressing the optimum carving work for a signboard of a building with a Japanese atmosphere such as a shrine or a Japanese confectionary shop, a flat carving suitable for expressing a mark or the like and a sharp impression V - engraving (router carving), which is most suitable for line books, has a very particular attention to carving. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is a work of a soul or a taste of a craftsman.
There are many things that used copper plates for Japanese signboards. Because it covers the surface with a copper plate, it is not a copper signboard, but I will introduce some of Japanese-style signboards making full use of the properties of metal copper.
The properties of copper are
(1) corrosion resistance (2) electricity, thermal conductivity (3) bactericidal action can be raised.
What to use for a Japanese signboard is (1) corrosion resistance ... that is to say that it is durable and lasts long. By the way, gold also has the best corrosion resistance. In the case of pure gold, it does not change at all, but the surface oxidizes as copper cools over time. It does not erode to the inside with the oxide film of the surface.
Normally, patina refers to things whose copper has oxidized to bluish green, but what we call green-blue here is the patina of rock paint used in Japanese paintings. It is in powder form and it is used for finishing characters. At Kurita signboard we use artificial new rock paint.
